Multiscreen BT Sport Delivery: One Year On

Jérôme has more than 15 years' experience in the industry, having patented technology while in R&D in that space and architectured and delivered BT's multicast and CDN. More recently, he helped launch STB services with Youview and BT Sport. BT Sport launched nearly a year ago on a multitude of IPTV platforms and has been a roaring success, changing the face of the UK TV industry. In parallel, Youview launched and BT's TV services evolved along with the UK's first efforts at electronic sell-through. Jérôme will reflect on this busy year, share some insights into the technology behind these services, and set the scene for what challenges lay ahead in our industry.

Norway's Multiscreen Winter Olympics

Norway is the cradle of modern skiing and a country where almost everything grinds to a halt for a few weeks every four years as the country pauses to watch the Winter Olympics. 2014 marked the first time a commercial broadcaster-TV 2-had the license to deliver the games in Norway, including over-the-top (OTT) via its groundbreaking TV 2 Sumo service. The challenges were numerous- for the first time, there would be advertising during the games, and the demand for OTT access had exploded since the Vancouver games in 2012. The results were amazing for the Nordics' most successful OTT service, which expanded its subscriber base by 2.5 times. Kristian Bruarøy discusses TV 2 and TV 2 Sumo's strategies, the technical challenges around scaling to a much larger audience, and the outcome-the most widely available Olympic Games to the Norwegian audience had ever seen.
